I been doing a bit of digging round and autodesk no long appear to have the service pack or any updates around. When Max 4.2 was released there were/are two options: install CS 2.2 or 3.2 (included in the box was a copy of CS 3.0, which is the stand alone upgrade for 3D Studio R3.1 - that's the one of mine that broke and have since located an OEM replacement.
